The Road to Being Healthy

There is more to being healthy than by simply eating the right food and engaging in body exercises. The aspects of health cover one’s physical, mental and social well-being.

The other aspects of health are usually taken for granted including the mental health which covers the level of mental and emotional well-being of a person. A mentally healthy person is not necessarily someone who gives the right answers during recitations or exams. This more likely describes a person who is able to rationalize on relevant matters in life and can see things positively.

It will be difficult for the mind to work properly if it thrives on negative and disturbing thoughts. It is also safe to say that a mentally healthy person is someone who is free from any mental disorder since nothing can prevent the person from thinking and deciding clearly and objectively.

If you want to have a positive mental health, then do not live in self-doubt and fear. Gather up confidence, try to take risks and never be afraid to make mistakes. It may seem absurd to many but working to have a healthy mind is not too different from wanting a healthy body. Mental health is greatly related with having a healthy diet, by sleeping well, having proper hygiene and the likes.

You might remember some of your school experiences. Students experience failing examinations even if they studied really hard and spent the entire night on reading. When examinations came, they couldn’t remember most of what they have read because both their bodies and minds are too tired. They might even end up sleeping during the entire exam period.

Students and employees who have empty stomachs will most likely be unable to perform their respective tasks. Instead of concentrating on what they need to do, they are heavily disturbed by hunger or stomach aches. These are only some of the direct relationships between physical and mental health.


Aside from the physical and mental health, another important part of life is the social well-being. It is true that no man is an island. Others might feel more comfortable being alone and they are certainly entitled to their privacy. However, wanting to be along all the time may not be considered socially healthy.

We live in a world where the principle of “give and take” applies. We cannot be expected to provide all our individual needs. We cannot also just take everything from others without giving something back. In a bigger concept, we have to abide by the laws and these laws also protect us from harm. We receive benefits from the government because we pay our taxes.

This give and take principle is not possible if we live only for ourselves and if we do not associate with other people. This same principle also describes how social health is achieved: by a healthy relationship with others.
In choosing to lead a healthy life, do not just pick one aspect because the purpose will not be achieved. Work on achieving a healthy physical, mental and social well-being so that you will not only have a longer life but also a happier and more meaningful one.

Lead a Healthy Lifestyle

What does a healthy lifestyle mean? It is something that we often read in magazines and hear from other people or in the television. It sounds good but do we really understand what it stands for?

A healthy lifestyle is achieved with healthy living. A healthy person is someone who consumes the right food and drinks, who engages in exercises and who does not smoke. That seems relatively easy to do but how come there are still a lot of obese, underweight and unfit people nowadays? It is because they find it difficult to make changes in their life especially in their habits.

The first step to becoming healthy is by gathering up the will to make small changes in your lifestyle. It can start with drinking an extra glass of water, changing your favorite drink from alcohol to fruit juices or cutting off the fatty parts of your pork meal. Then you can go on to doing a lot more.

The lack of activity and movement is a major contributor of poor health. Others think that moving is tiring. The truth is: it is easier to get tired even with the most menial tasks if the body is not used to moving. By regularly engaging in simple activities, the body will feel more alive. More importantly, a little movement can prevent osteoporosis, reduce stress and improve the range of your movement, among others.

There are simple activities that can give you the opportunity to move your body and achieve other important things as well. On weekends, you can go to the park with your family and enjoy playing with them. In the afternoons, you can take your pets out and walk them around the neighborhood. You can make your home cleaner and more beautiful by doing household chores and some decorating. Even while talking on the phone, you can pace around. They may seem very simple but they can contribute a lot in the long run.
If you want to achieve more especially when you are intent on losing weight, you can do heavy exercising in the gym or in your own home.

Nothing beats eating a healthy diet in order to achieve a healthy lifestyle. The diet does not only allow you to lose weight. It also improves your thinking and the quality of your life as you get older. With the aid of the Food Guide Pyramid, you can assess what kind of food is good for the health and how much of it is needed by your body.

Small things like eating more fruit, drinking more water and adding veggies in any meal or snacks is already a manifestation that you are serious in wanting a healthy lifestyle.

There is no right age for a person to start leading a healthy lifestyle. It can start now. Do not prolong it by thinking that you can enjoy eating everything that you want now because there will always be tomorrow. If you don’t lead a healthy lifestyle, there may never be a tomorrow for you.

It is often said that the most important wealth that one can achieve is being consistently healthy. It does not really matter if you used to be healthy. What greatly matters is that you stay healthy.

There are so many people who find it very difficult to become healthy and fit. Obesity is one of the major health problems of today and the number of overweight is alarmingly increasing. With new innovations, many different kinds of food are also offered in the market. People cannot fight the temptation especially when the food and drinks look and taste great. But if we are not conscious of what we eat and the amount of our intake, we will not live long to enjoy a beautiful life.

Bad habits contribute to a deteriorating body. The unhealthy lifestyle of too much drinking alcohol and smoking can lead to diseases. Living in places that have infested dumps, unclean water and polluted air are also detrimental to the health.

If you want to become healthy, then you must welcome fitness and health tips because you have so much to learn from them.

Aside from living in a clean and safe place, what else can you do? You have probably heard the answer so many times that you are already sick and tired of hearing it again. But here it is: You must burn up more calories than you consume. This can be accomplished in many ways.

One of the most important health and fitness tips is to drink lots of water every day and not only when you are thirsty. Experts have supported this, citing that water and the right fruit juices are vital elements of a good diet. Water does not only help people lose weight but they also keep the body properly hydrated.

It is highly possible that you have been eating the right food and drinking just the right amount of water, yet you still don’t feel and look healthy. This is because you have not been moving or walking a lot. This is the typical problem of many office workers. There are activities that you can do that allow you to move around. Your work need not hinder you because you can get the needed activities before or after work hours. You can walk your dogs, jog in the neighborhood or simply do household chores. What is more wonderful is that you don’t only get to be fit; you will also be able to relieve stress.

If you have bad habits like smoking cigars, it is now time to put an end to this vice if you are serious on wanting to get healthy. Smokers have more chances of getting diseases like lung cancer.

Stress can lead to too much eating or not eating at all. Do not forget that being healthy is not about becoming thin. The overweight and underweight are both not healthy. If you already feel that you are getting stressed-out due to work or family matters, do take some time off for yourself to rest and think.

This is what you have been waiting for. Do not go for foods that are high in fat because it will certainly not take a long time to become fat as well. You are not forbidden to enjoy fatty foods. You are simply reminded to be conscious of your fat intake and to take as little as possible. You can enjoy pork even if you cut off the fat parts and you can prepare chicken in healthy ways. Fish has the type of fat that is great for the body. Do not forget to eat vegetables and fruit. They do not only taste good; but more importantly, they help the body lose weight and become fit.

These are only some of the health tips that you can apply. Most of them are not new to you because the ways to becoming healthy are not really a secret.
